The National Electricity Act 2023 in Somalia is a transformative law signed by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on March 8, 2023. It aims to revamp the energy sector by establishing the National Electricity Authority (NEA), promoting private sector investment, setting national standards for service quality and environmental protection, and implementing rural electrification programs. In terms of the solar sector, the Act is expected to increase investment in solar projects, support the hybridization of existing mini-grids with solar power, promote innovative models like Pay-As-You-Go, and facilitate rural electrification through solar energy projects. Overall, the Act is set to significantly enhance the solar sector in Somalia, leading to sustainable development and improved access to clean energy countrywide.

Somalia's Power Master Plan, created by the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, aims to improve the country's energy infrastructure and increase access to reliable electricity. The plan focuses on integrating renewable energy sources, particularly solar, into the national grid and promoting the hybridization of diesel minigrids with solar PV systems to reduce costs and reliance on diesel. It also includes initiatives for rural electrification, encouraging private sector participation in solar projects to attract investments. The plan is expected to increase solar investments, reduce electricity generation costs, enhance energy access in rural areas, and support sustainable development goals by reducing emissions and promoting environmental stewardship. Overall, the Power Master Plan is set to boost the solar sector in Somalia, leading to a more sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure in the country.
