Solar Reports

The report on Ghana's solar energy landscape by the International Solar Alliance highlights the country's electricity consumption of 647.2 kWh per capita in 2020. Ghana had a solar capacity of 107.9 MW in 2021, with supportive renewable energy policies such as net metering and feed-in tariffs. The country receives high levels of solar irradiation, making it a promising location for solar energy development. Ghana is classified as a lower middle-income country with a GDP per capita of USD 5,971 in 2021, showing real GDP growth of 4.2% in 2021.

The IRENA report on Ghana’s renewable energy profile provides an overview of the country’s energy landscape as of 2021. Ghana’s total energy supply was 504,474 TJ, with renewable energy contributing around 40%. The primary sources of renewable energy in Ghana are bioenergy and hydropower. The report highlights Ghana’s efforts to increase its renewable energy capacity through various initiatives and policies, aiming to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and enhance energy security.
