The Solar Energy Development Project in Cuba is a pivotal initiative aimed at enhancing the country’s renewable energy capacity and reducing its dependence on fossil fuels. This project is backed by a $45 million loan from the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), which is instrumental in modernizing the facilities that manufacture photovoltaic (PV) panels and solar water heater systems. These upgrades are taking place in two key facilities located in the Ciego de Ávila and Pinar del Río provinces. The environmental impact of the Solar Energy Development Project is substantial. It is projected to reduce over 26,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually and save approximately 8,900 tons of fossil fuels each year.
